ABSTRACT: This research explored the benefits of early childhood gardening programs on environmental awareness. The objectives were to: (1) assess the impact of gardening activities on children's understanding of the environment, (2) evaluate the influence of hands-on learning on environmental stewardship, and (3) determine the role of gardening programs in fostering sustainable behaviors. A survey design was employed to gather data from educators and parents about their experiences with gardening programs and their impact on children's environmental awareness. A sample size of 130 preschool educators and parents was selected using purposive sampling. The case study focused on early childhood education centers in Edo State, Nigeria. Findings indicated that gardening programs significantly enhanced children's understanding of the environment and promoted environmental stewardship. Hands-on learning activities were found to be highly effective in fostering sustainable behaviors. It was recommended that early childhood education programs integrate gardening activities into their curricula and that educators receive training in environmental education to support the development of environmental awareness in young children.
